You've Arrived. Maison De L'Orb is a place where you can rest, indulge and enjoy your break in the beautiful city of Beziers. Five double en-suite bedrooms in the main B & B with three gites currently being refurbished. Maison De L'Orb is in Beziers, a town in Languedoc in the southwest of France. After two years hard work, Maison De L'Orb is emerging as one of the most sought after and delightful places to stay in the area
Maison De L’Orb is one of the best old houses in Beziers overlooking the river where guests come to stay with us throughout the year. The house is unique in its character and differs somewhat from others in the surrounding area.
We have guest areas with books to choose and relax with, art on the walls, two very sociable dogs and a garden of fruit trees. The bedrooms have good comfortable beds; the bathrooms are simple with good showers. We also prepare a truly fantastic breakfast.
Our guests have informed us of the ambience and the homely atmosphere that simply allows their imagination to go back into the past. The house also harnesses all the up to date modern technology such as WI-FI and full office services for the business traveller on the move.
We are open all year so ideal for those who fancy a spring or autumabal getaway break when out of season. The bedrooms are simple with all facilities such as a proper hospitality tray with real milk. We use fruit from the garden when making our breakfast jams and preserves. Our garden overlooks Pont Vieux and is the best place to catch the sunset whilst enjoying a preamble drink. Dinner can also be prepared and cooked using local produce.
But whilst everything here is lovely, it is not grand. Our guests stay awhile, read, chat and sleep well, and we watch their tension drop away. That makes us happy and that is why our guests return two or three times a year. We don’t pretend Maison De L’Orb is a hip boutique, nor are we a middle of the road boring hotel...but you will discover your own charm when you’ve arrived.
Although you find it difficult to notice, the core of Maison De L’Orb dates back to the mid nineteenth century when the house was in prime location standing ahead of the former beach in Beziers.
The story goes that the former house was divided up into three apartments in the early part of the twentieth century before returning to one main house some fifty years later. The occupants of the house during World War Two ensured theirs was a safe haven and was used by frequent escapers and those fleeing the Nazi forces.
In the garden stands the former lavorie – the boat wash-house. Sitting in our garden (where you can sunbath and relax) it makes a wonderful sight especially at sunset.
Bought in 2007, the house was losing its soul. It was tired and dowdy to say the least but over the last several years the former top apartment has been converted into five en-suite bedroom with another apartment now home to our dining room and guest reading room. The whole house has been carefully restored to its former glory and brought into the twenty first century whilst retaining the charm of the past. We are currently in midst of refurbishing three gites which are located "underneath" Maison De L'Orb by the garden.
As it is considered infra dig to blow ones trumpet, we won’t....we will let someone else do this for us. To quote French Travel Magazine “relaxed, friendly, good hosts, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms and a tempting breakfast with homemade pastries. This type of French bed and breakfast is quite hard to find, luckily we found Maison De L’Orb”.
Happily it’s a sentiment we are proud of and why many of our guests are returning and stay sometimes three or four times a year. With direct and cheap flights to the UK and now Germany, Norway and Sweden, Beziers makes an inviting weekend getaway even more realistic.
Apart from good food (and wine) there are many reasons to come to Beziers. The relaxed ambience of a city, it’s pretty and elegant cathedral, great shops and boutiques, tempting cafes and bars not to mention an area of charm and beauty.
At Maison De L’Orb, we try to maintain a balance between modern facilities and good old fashioned hospitality. The bedrooms have a warm character with lighting to suit the mood. We wish to make the guest feel comfortable during their stay however long and to also provide services that they would not receive from other similar establishments. The décor is simple, original tile flooring with exposed stonework and beams, lime washed walls and simple white wash paint, French style beds with new mattresses, and original shutters with cotton flow drapes to hide the midday sun. Cotton sheets, fresh flowers, plasma television, WI-FI and a hospitality tray with tea and coffee making facilities add to the ambience of the building.
Attention to detail is paramount. We don’t leave towels on the bed to prove they are clean and nor do we provide UHT milk but rather a super flask of real chilled milk.
We never forget the reason we are here is to ensure our guests have a happy and memorable stay.
Beziers is oozing with history and has a surprising number of attractions, including parks and gardens, museums, art galleries, theatres and bars, and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. Beziers is not just a magnificent larder; its chefs also have flair. A number of young chefs, some of whom have “come down” from Paris to rediscover the taste of local products, have shown real genius in updating the Languedoc’s gastronomic heritage.
Unlike some destinations for a city break in Europe, Béziers does not have huge crowds, inflated prices and a mob of foreign tourists descending on it. This small city, with its stunning cathedral and fabulous Canal du Midi, has a more peaceful charm, so that you can walk the historic streets without being crushed.
Béziers is surrounded by some of the prettiest countryside in southern France and is just a few miles from the Mediterranean coast, making it a perfect base for holidays in the south of France.
